The Tambourine is a musical instrument that often goes unnoticed. It adds a rhythmic element to all types of music, mainly folk music, not only in India but around the world.
Tambourine is basically a percussion instrument having various pairs of metal jingles that strike against each other. There are lots of varieties of the tambourines. Some are real drums, with the bells spread around a circular shape with a tight goat skin on it for drumming. But most ones only have the bells part, whether in the similar circular frame, or as separate sticks.
It’s not difficult to play the Tambourine, though it requires a good sense of rhythm and practice. Strike the instrument's frame with the palm of your hand to produce an interesting sound. You can try the roll and the thumb roll to produce the best sound. The drum roll sound is produced by rotating the wrist quickly. You can combine it with a strike. The thumb roll also produces a quieter roll and is like playing the snare drum with brushes. You can move the thumb over the whole surface of the frame to produce a rhythmic sound.
